“It’s a marvelous opportunity. We have so many organizations in Danville that care about reading, but we’ve never had them all working together before. This convention has blown up larger than our wildest dreams, and it’s going to be incredibly exciting to be able to get so many people reading and talking about literacy and seeing the magic that can happen between the pages of a book. We’ve never done anything like this before, and you don’t want to miss it.”
~Brent Williamson, the Danville teacher in charge of the event.
The Danville community comes together and shares its love of books and reading at a family friendly event that’s the first of its kind: READ-X! This reading convention is the first time these organizations have come together; a groundbreaking partnership between the Danville Schools, Indy Reads: Hendricks County and the Danville Library. Convention attendees will find books, free food, prize drawings, games, kids reading to dogs and much more.
The prize drawings include 11 Android Nabi tablets, a Barnes and Nobles Glowlight Nook eReader, a $30 Barnes and Nobles gift card, children’s books from Indy Reads and books from Half Price Books, toys, and games. Food at the event will be provided by Chicago’s Pizza in Plainfield and Chick-Fil-A in Avon. There will be read alouds, banned books, books for kids who hate reading, and even a first glance at a brand new original novel.
The event is wonderful for toddlers, children, middle school students, high school students and adults. Paws to Read will be there, providing children with an opportunity to read to dogs. All are welcome, regardless of whether they hold a Danville Library card. The library will offer a digital tour of its Evergreen book lending system, which allows cardholders to check out books from across the state and have them delivered to Danville. We will also be collecting donations of non-perishable food items for Gleaner’s food bank.
