Opportunities

  • Title: Adult Services Librarian

    Reports to: Director

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    GENERAL SUMMARY: I provide services and programs for adults 18+ years old. I provide professional library services through reference, readers advisory, and instruction. I assist with collection development, department and library-wide programming, and outreach. I understand the library’s vision and values and contribute to a welcoming environment for both staff and patrons. 

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    1. I develop and present numerous programs to support the strategic goals of the library

    2. I work at the public desk providing reference and reader’s advisory services. 

    3. I assist patrons with library equipment and help troubleshoot computer and smart device issues.

    4. I work with the entire library staff on library-wide initiatives and outreach.

    5. I help collect and maintain all formats of materials and resources in compliance with our collection development policy.

    6. I am responsible for being familiar with library policies, rules, and regulations and interpreting those to the public, team members, and volunteers.

    7. I prepare statistical and narrative reports as required.

    8. I am responsible for staying up to date on library wide communication, changes in policy, and being knowledgeable of the activities of the entire library. I am responsible for building relationships with the larger DCTPL team.

    9. I am responsible for being a literate user of (with the goal of being expert in) the Evergreen ILS, Google, Microsoft Office, and all related software used for tracking.

    10.  I create and maintain displays and exhibits as assigned.

    11. I perform other related duties as assigned. 

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution

    • Indiana Library Certification 3

    • One year of library experience preferred

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES 

    • Strong interpersonal skills for managing staff and dealing with other employees, patrons, and other outside contacts in a tactful and professional manner

    • Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing

    • Must be knowledgeable of print, non-print, and electronic materials and resources; experience with programming preferred.

    • Ability to creatively plan, develop, and carry out programs which follow our strategic focus for the year 

    • Ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships with co-workers and the public

    • Committed to excellence in customer service

    • Highly self-motivated, creative, patient, and flexible with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently and as part of a team

    • Competency in computer-based technology to create, store and retrieve information

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    • Duties may require an employee to stand, sit, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, climb, balance, roll a fully loaded book truck, talk, lift materials up to 40 pounds, walk, view a computer monitor for extended periods, or work on their feet for several hours at a time

    • Work productively in an environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises

    • Regularly required to speak publicly, talk, and/or hear; use hands to operate objects, phone, tools, and controls; and reach with hands and arms

  • Position Description 

    Title: Early Childhood Educator

    Reports to: Programming Manager 

    FLSA Status: Non-exempt 

    GENERAL SUMMARY: As an Early Childhood Educator and a member of the Danville-Center Township Public Library Team, I am responsible for working with my supervisor and the Youth Services Team to assist patrons with reference and readers advisory services. As a member of the team, I also work to develop programs and outreach with a goal of championing reading and literacy for our community. I understand the library’s vision and values, and contribute to a welcoming environment for both staff and patrons. I collaborate and connect with staff from the entire DCTPL Team. 

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - YOUTH SERVICES 

    1. I tell the library’s story through my interactions with members of the community.

    2. I develop new and continuing relationships with our community.

    3. I work with the larger library team on library-wide initiatives and outreach.

    4. I am responsible for being familiar with library policies, rules, and regulations and interpreting those to the public and team members. 

    5. I am responsible for staying up to date on library wide communication, changes in policy, and being knowledgeable of the activities of the entire library team. 

    6. I am responsible for building relationships with the larger DCTPL Team.

    7. I develop literacy activities for youth and create and lead youth-specific programming aligned with the library’s vision.  

    8. I work at the desk providing reference and readers’ advisory service, assisting patrons with the use of library equipment and resources, and assisting with community outreach

    9. I create and maintain displays and exhibits as assigned. 

    10. I am responsible to be a literate user of the Evergreen ILS, Google, Microsoft Office, and I perform other related duties as assigned. 

    11. I perform other related duties as needed to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the library and may be asked to help in other departments occasionally.

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    • Four-year College Degree 

    • Indiana Library Certification 4 

    • One year of related experience preferred 

    • Early childhood training or experience a plus

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES 

    • Knowledgeable of children’s print, non-print and electronic materials and resources. 

    • Become knowledge of the principles and practices of public library functions particularly regarding children’s services. 

    • Knowledge of the needs and abilities of children and the available library materials, services, and resources, including electronic resources preferred. 

    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing. 

    • Ability to creatively plan, develop, and carry out programs which follow our strategic focus for the year. 

    • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with children, their caregivers and other professionals who work with children. 

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.

  • Position Description 

    Title: General Library Clerk 

    Reports to: Assistant Director 

    FLSA Status: Non-exempt 

    GENERAL SUMMARY: I work as part of a team to provide patrons with outstanding service. I perform various clerical tasks related to the processing, sorting, and circulation of library materials within different departments of the library. I take pride in greeting and knowing our patrons, creating a warm and welcoming environment. Although I am a library clerk I also collaborate and connect with staff from the entire DCTPL team. 

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    1. I work with the public and other library staff to provide positive, enthusiastic, people-first service. 

    2. I resolve problems and negotiate solutions for our patrons. 

    3. I follow our financial controls policy when handling money. 

    4. I interpret library policy rules and regulations to the public as needed. 

    5. I assist patrons during their visit by performing clerical tasks with extensive public interactions. 

    6. I perform a wide variety of duties as assigned to ensure the effective and efficient operation of all of the departments within the library. 

    7. I act as an advocate for library services and programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    • High School Diploma 

    • Enjoy working with the public 

    • One year of related customer service or education experience preferred 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES 

    • Ability to relate well to a diverse group of patrons including people of all ages 

    • Ability to operate a cash register, count money accurately, and prepare deposits

    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing 

    • Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with co-workers and patrons 

    • Able to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage priorities even with interruptions 

    • Ability to be self-motivated, creative, patient, and flexible with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently or as part of a team 

    • Committed to prioritizing patron experience and providing excellence in customer service

    • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with external and internal customers and maintain composure in a stressful situation 

    • Competent to learn Evergreen software to assist patrons 

    • Assists patrons with the use of printer, copier and fax machine when necessary 

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    • Duties may require an employee to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, climb, balance, move books, and move or lift materials up to 40 lbs 

    • Work in an environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises 

    • Able to sit lengthy periods spent at a desk viewing a computer monitor and operating a keyboard and able to work on your feet for several hours at a time 

    • Regularly required to talk and/or hear; use hands to operate objects, tools, and controls; and reach with hands and arms

    • Required to read printed materials and information on computer screens
